Recently, in just finished voting by ISO/IEC, four proposals of IGRS standard were passed overwhelmingly by 17 to 0 in the new international voting.
“Following sessions will be finished in June. So after June, we will probably announce to be international standard.” Yesterday, YANG Nan, vice president of IGRS, secretary of Beijing IGRS Information Industry Association revealed that IGRS speeded up progress to become international standard, and there would be voting in following sessions. However, in accordance with past practice, there is no suspense that IGRS will become international standard.
Four proposals were acknowledged
YANG Nan said in an interview with reporters “It’s rare in international history that four proposals were confirmed at two important stages in new round of voting. This means that China standard has taken an important position in international structure.
YANG Nan said “After June, we will probably announce to be international standard” “certainly before Olympics begins”. He also considered that it’s of great significance to become international standard for promotion of industrialization and stimulation of market. The most obvious point is that several manufacturers support IGRS products. According to presentations, IGRS standard isn’t limited to hardware platform and operation system, support non-IP bluetooth technology, and adopt completely open framework, etc.
TCL IGRS deserve it!
YANG Nan said IGRS products have had certain market foundation. Recently, there are one hundred and eight association members. Up to end of 2007, IGRS products of more than thirty styles, such as IGRS PC, laptop, TV, cell phone, projector, etc have entered into market. Sales volume broke five million.
SHEN Wenjian, expert in home appliance analyzes 3C is a concept. Infuse needs concrete product. To be international standard will strengthen IGRS industrial position, and integrate resources of customer and supplier more rapidly. “In half a year or one, there will be obvious response from the market which will be stimulated faster.”
In fact, there is certain doubt about IGRS promotion from industry. Because Benefit-based relationships, like cross license exist among IGRS members. This may hinder cooperation, and PC, home appliance and cell phone does things in its own way.
YANG Nan said that IGRS committed itself to drive members to promote tother. IGRS will issue several solutions to resolve relevance among products of different brands, involving solution of different released products and products to release.
TCL said to reporter that IGRS also made significant breakthrough in commercialization and core technology authorization. TCL IGRS middleware platform is officially entrusted to Shenzhen Zonghengxin Technology Company with compensation. This symbols that IGRS standard has entered franchising stage of core technology patent. However, former IGRS technology franchising was internal cross or free for prompting IGRS technology.
Change will be taken place in standard confirmation framework
3C-convergence has already been an industry common view. Except for IGRS, ⅠTop Home, DLAN are viewed as competitor of IGRS. In addition, TV, cell phone, IPTV standard are included. SHEN Wenjian said that nowadays ambitious strife" situation was formed. “It’s a long time since 3C-convergence was put forward. However, there is less consumption family to carry out it. There are no problems about technology. What is a key is support of convergence. That’s standard. ”
“We should say that IGRS pays attention to multi-media transfer, andⅠTop Home prefers broadband control of major appliance ” YANG Nan said their fields are different. “Behind standard is an interest fight”. There is analysis that it’s the root cause that Haier chooses ⅠTop Home.
SHEN Wenjian said IGRS would be more popular after become international standard. Change will be taken place in future competition structure. There will be several possibilities for final result. “It’s very common that enterprise changes its view according to circumstances”

There is little chance to achieve 3C-convergence in short term.
If IGRS becomes international standard, this means that IGRS will speed up integration of customers and suppliers’ resources, and promote industrialization progress.
Nowadays ambitious strife situation was there, as for standard establishment of 3C-convergence. For example, Haier chooses ⅠTop Home, and Intel chooses DLNA, etc. There is little chance to achieve 3C-convergence in short term. Market bankrupt mechanism is still needed.
